Squarespace to Netlify: Step by Step

Updated October 2026

The fastest way to see the exported site online: drag a folder, get a link. Free plan covers most small sites. This guide assumes you already have a static export of your Squarespace site: a folder with index.html, your pages as folders, and an assets folder. If you do not have that yet, start with how to export a Squarespace site as HTML.

Steps

  1. Create a free Netlify account. On the Sites page, drag the site folder from your export onto the drop zone that says Drag and drop your site output folder here.
  2. Netlify uploads the folder and shows a random address like gentle-otter-1234.netlify.app. The site is live immediately.
  3. Open Domain management → Add a domain, enter yours, and follow the DNS instructions: either move the domain's nameservers to Netlify or add the records it lists at your registrar. HTTPS is issued automatically.
  4. To update the site later, drag the folder again or use Deploys → Drag and drop.

What to check afterwards

Netlify serves /about from about/index.html and uses 404.html for missing pages. Netlify Forms is a separate feature; the exported forms use the relay or email setting instead. Open the site on your phone and click through the menu, a gallery and the contact form. Compare against the measurement table from the export if you have one.

Keeping your rankings

Keep the same page paths as on Squarespace (/about, /menu, /contact) and the same titles and descriptions. The export keeps both. If a page's address changes, add a redirect on the new host.

No export yet? The free check shows your page count and what carries over; the export is once. Prefer not to touch hosting at all? We host it with your domain for a month.
