Every image on a Squarespace site is served in several sizes. The address ends with something like ?format=1500w, which is a resized copy. Here is how to get the original, and how to get all of them without clicking through every page.
Right click the image, open it in a new tab, and delete everything from the question mark onward. The address without a format parameter returns the original upload. Save it.
Gallery images open the same way from the lightbox. Background images do not have a right click target; open the browser's developer tools, find the section's background-image URL, and strip the format parameter as above.
A static export visits every page, finds every image (content, galleries, backgrounds, logos, favicons), downloads the largest size Squarespace serves, and keeps them in an assets folder with web ready resized copies. The images come named after the original uploads, so you can tell them apart. This is the practical route for a site with more than twenty images.
Images removed from pages but still in the Squarespace asset library are not on any public page, so no export can find them. Download those from the asset library in the site editor before you cancel.
